The FULLEN + TÄLLEVIKEN sink vanity unit has no counter space and storage is rather limited inside. The goal of this hack was to provide surfaces to set items and increase storage.

The extra storage looks nice and functions well. It also fills an awkward gap between the small sink vanity unit and the toilet.

IKEA items used:
Other materials and tools:
- 5/4″ x 12″ x 4′ red oak board
- Tung oil
- Framing angle/ joist clips
- Screws
- Nuts & bolts
- Miter saw
- Tape measure
Adding shelves to sink vanity unit:
Firstly, measure and cut the board into 12″ lengths. We used red oak, you can choose wood to suit your bathroom.
Then, sand and finish the board pieces with tung oil. Let the oil dry completely.
The next step is to measure the side of the vanity for shelf placement. This is probably the hardest part of the hack as I wanted the shelves to be evenly spaced.
Doing the math to space out the shelves evenly along the side of the vanity took a bit of time. Once the math is done, it was easy.
Next, attach framing angle/ joist clip to the edge of the board. Dry fit to the side of the FULLEN vanity and mark holes for drilling.
After marking, drill through the side of the vanity.
Then, connect the shelf bracket to the cabinet with bolts and nuts.
For added strength, screw from the inside of the cabinet into the side of the wood shelf.
Repeat above steps until all shelves are attached.
How long and how much did it cost?
A couple of hours (excluding dry time) and less than $25.
Looking back, would you have done it differently?
I would have used sturdier brackets.
